‘Dreadful situation’ Ukraine marks two years since start of war

It has been two years since Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

In that time, more than 31,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed in action, with tens of thousands of civilians believed dead in Ukraine’s occupied areas.

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned the death toll will rise unless the West sends more military aid to the front line.

World Vision CEO Daniel Wordsworth says it is a “dreadful situation” in that area.

“You have three million children that are caught up directly in this conflict, you have kids that are going to school now … going in bunkers,” he told Sky News Australia.

“You have one-third of the country had to leave because of the war, one-third is caught up in the war, and the one-third in the middle is trying to care for everyone else.”
