Labor ‘failing’ on building and maintaining a strong Defence Force

Shadow Home Affairs Minister James Paterson says there are three key things a defence force needs in a time of crisis, which are “platforms, munitions and people”.

Mr Paterson told Sky News host Chris Kenny that the Albanese government is “failing on all three”.

“They were supposed to do a short sharp review into our service fleet – well, a year later, where is that up to?” he said.

“They were supposed to acquire munitions so that we could have something to fire in the event of a crisis – well, where’s that two years in?

“And they were supposed to recruit even more people from Defence and retain people that we’ve already got in Defence, and they’re failing to do that.”
