Labor’s Right to Disconnect is ‘lowest common denominator’ policy development

The Labor government’s Right to Disconnect law is “lowest common denominator” policy development which assumes all bosses are “unboundaried” rats, GT Communications’ Gemma Tognini says.

“Is it any wonder this government is coming out with, what I call, lowest common denominator policy development, they are assuming every boss in Australia is an unboundaried rat,” Ms Tognini told Sky News host Chris Kenny.

Under the law, workers will obtain the legal right to ignore phone calls and emails made by their employers outside of working hours.

The company would be able to be penalised if contact is deemed unreasonable and initiated on unpaid time.

Business groups have criticised the reform, arguing it would impede the growth of organisations in what was an already uncertain economic period and further bind them in red tape.
