‘Shambles’ Convicted criminals remain ‘on the loose’ despite new detainee laws

Sky News host Chris Kenny warns murderers and sex offenders are “on the loose” in the community, and the Albanese government won’t even say if they all have ankle bracelets.

Documents tabled to the Legal and Constitutional Affairs Legislation Committee on Monday provided a breakdown of the serious crimes committed by immigration detainees who were freed last year from the landmark NZYQ High Court ruling.

The documents revealed that 24 of the freed detainees have reoffended since they were released into the community.

Six have since been arrested and charged over alleged visa breaches, while 18 were charged with alleged offences by state and territory police.

“Wanna know how many of these criminals have been re-detained, put back into detention? None. Not one,” Mr Kenny said.

“Not a single convicted criminal taken back into detention. They are still free in Australia among us.”
