‘Band aid on a bullet hole’ Albanese government slammed for economic handling

5 months in news

Shadow Finance Minister Jane Hume has called out the Albanese government, saying Labor is only putting a “band-aid on a bullet hole” in its attempts to tackle the cost of living crisis.

“The only way to sustainably bring down the cost of living is to reduce inflation,” Ms Hume told Sky News Australia.

The Shadow Finance Minister said the government’s fiscal position needs to be “in line” with its monetary policy position.

“They have already made direct payments to families that are doing it tough, but quite frankly, those families will continue to do it tough if inflation continues,” she said.

“Economists across the board are saying government spending is actually making the inflation situation worse.”
