Asgarali, Douglas, Joseph win table tennis titles

Nazruddin Asgarali claimed the veteran title on day two of the Trinidad and Tobago Table Tennis Association Senior Nationals Tournament at the National Racquet Centre, Tacarigua.
Asgarali won the title with relative ease securing a 3-1 victory over Franklyn Seechan in the final. The former national player and US-based Asgarali started the tournament as the favourite following the absence of multiple winner David Mahabir who recently won the 70-74 age category of the European men`s veteran single title in Norway.
Asgarali defeated Seechan 11:8, 11:7, 9:11, 11:2 in the entertaining final. In the semi-final, Asgarali defeated Faiz Mohammed 3-0 (11:7, 11:5, 11:6) whilst Seechan blew past Nigel Morgan 3-0 (11:7, 11:5, 11:2).
The Queen`s Park (QPCC) pair of Derron Douglas and Brittany Joseph claimed the mixed doubles title over clubmates Yuvraaj Dookram and Imani Edwards-Taylor in straight sets (11:9, 11:8, 11:9). In the semis, Douglas/Joseph defeated French-based duo of Malik Gopaul and Chloe Fraser of Crusaders 3-0 (14:12, 13:11, 12:10). National players Dookram and Edward-Taylor had a more difficult task to overcome WASA team of Curtis Humphreys and Ambika Sitram 3-1 (9:11, 11:8, 11:7, 11:3).
In the women`s doubles semis, QPCC duo of Imani-Edwards Taylor and Brittany Joseph will face Powergen's Priyanka Khellawan and Jannah Mohammed whilst Ambika Sitram and Chloe fraser will do battle against the mother-daughter pairing of Linda Partap-Boodhan and Rayanna Boodhan of Tunapuna Hindu School and Friends.
The men's and women's singles competition was at the round of 16 stage at press time with Aaron Wilson and Edwards-Taylor as favourites.
