The Menzies Research Centre's Nick Cater says French President Emmanuel Macron’s re-election will bring “a sense of stability” to the country.

Mr Macron became the first French president to be re-elected for a second term of office in 20 years after defeating far-right challenger Marine Le Pen in the second round of voting.

“It was a comfortable win and more comfortable than a lot of people thought but I think it hides the fact that you’ve got a country that’s become a lot more polarised over the last four years,” Mr Cater told Sky News host Rita Panahi.
