‘Pent up’ religious and ideological extremism ‘alive and well’ in UK

ASPI’s Michael Shoebridge says “pent-up religious and ideological extremism” is alive and well in the United Kingdom.

A 32-year-old Syrian-born immigrant has been identified as the suicide bomber who detonated an improvised explosive device outside a Liverpool hospital on Sunday.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has since been forced to raise Britain’s terror threat from ‘substantial’ to ‘severe’.

Mr Shoebridge said this shows “all the stresses and strains” out of the pandemic.

“Islamist violent extremism is a global phenomena and it’s alive and well in the UK,” he told Sky News host Peta Credlin.
