Nationals Senator Perin Davey says the party has put the regions “front and centre” of the Coalition's plan to reach net zero by 2050.

It comes after Prime Minister Scott Morrison officially committed Australia to a net zero emissions by 2050 target following approval from the Nationals.

“I'm actually very, very happy with what the Nationals have done; we’ve put the regions front and centre of this plan,” she told Sky News host Chris Kenny.

“We’ve absolutely got a commitment from the government that we will not be shutting down our coal industry.

“We’re protecting our coal industry while ever there’s market demand for coal; we’re protecting our other resources and heavy industries while ever there’s market demand.”
