September unemployment rate better than expected

over 2 years in news

The September unemployment rate was better than expected, but it increased slightly on August’s figure, which was the lowest in 12 and a half years, according to Business Editor Ross Greenwood.

The employment rate rose to 4.6 per cent from 4.5 per cent last month but was expected to be higher due to jobs losses from lockdowns.

In September, 138,000 jobs were lost, participation went down by 0.7 per cent, and the unemployment rate rose by 0.1 per cent.

Hours worked, however, saw a 15 million hour increase last year, according to figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
