Fortescue Future Industries’ Boss Andrew Forrest has urged Prime Minister Scott Morrison to attend the COP26 summit in Glasgow, amid international pressure on him to attend.

In an interview with the BBC, where the Australian government was described as “reluctant to accept the urgency” of climate change, Prince Charles appeared shocked to hear Prime Minister Scott Morrison was considering skipping the COP26 conference.

Former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has confirmed he will be attending the conference, alongside other world leaders, including United States President Joe Biden and United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

“Whenever I see our Prime Minister or have the privilege of speaking to him, I do urge him to attend COP26,” Mr Forrest told Sky News Australia.

“I think Australia has a fantastic story; I don’t think we’re that far away from declaring carbon neutrality by 2050, not because we’re all running around being climate change activists or climate change deniers – but because the economy is so important to every single Australian.

“If you want to grow our economy, then you will back carbon neutrality by 2050 because that is where the really big investments, the really huge number of jobs is going to be made.”
