Australia is already ‘well on the way’ to net zero by 2050

Liberal MP Dave Sharma says the world is moving towards net-zero by 2050 and Australia is already "well on the way".

It comes as Prime Minister Scott Morrison has said Australia will "aim" for net-zero by 2050, but is yet to officially sign up to the target.

Mr Sharma said Australia has a "good record" on emissions already and the Morrison government shouldn't get "stuck up or fixated" about the target.

"I think we can make the same commitment that other countries are," he told Sky News host Paul Murray.

"We've already got the track record behind us and we'll put the policies in place to get there."
