Republican Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has unveiled a plan to incentivise getting the COVID-19 vaccine – by handing out $1 million to five people in a lottery draw.

“Two weeks from tonight on May 26th, we will announce a winner of a separate drawing for adults who have received at least their first dose of the vaccine. This announcement will occur each Wednesday for five weeks, and the winner each Wednesday will receive one million dollars,” Mr DeWine said in a tweet.

ANU’s Mark Kenny jokingly said he would sign up if he was over there.

“Any sensible person it seems to be is going to be having the vaccine if they’ve got a choice and if we get a significant part of the population vaccinated then we can get this economy open again.”
