David O’Byrne tipped to replace Rebecca White as Tasmania Labor Leader

Tasmanian Labor Leader Rebecca White has announced she is standing aside after her party’s defeat at the last two state elections.

In a statement she said “I want to make it clear that my decision to stand aside has nothing to do with my pregnancy.”

“I want girls and women everywhere to know that they are capable of anything and they should back themselves, to walk through doors when they open - and be prepared to kick them down if they have to.”

A special meeting of Tasmanian Labor's administrative committee has agreed on broad terms of reference for an external review of the election loss on May one.

David O'Byrne is tipped to become the party's leader when the parliamentary members meet on Monday to discuss the matter.
