Facebook's Oversight Board has upheld its ban of former US President Donald Trump from its platforms following a review of its January 7 decision to ban the president for comments made on the day of the Capitol Riots.

The independent group of global experts reviewed whether or not to overturn the decision to ban Mr Trump after he allegedly breached community standards for "encouraging and legitimising violence".

The verdict found the former President's posts during the Capitol riots "severely" violated Facebook and Instagram's rules.
