‘I’m not asking for much’ Father confused over golf club’s rejection of memorial garden for slain children

A father whose children and niece were killed after a driver ploughed into them outside a golf club in Sydney's northwest in February 2020 says he doesn't understand why the golf club has rejected plans for a memorial garden for the children.

Siblings Antony,13, Angelina, 12, and Sienna, eight, were on their way to get ice cream with their cousin Veronique Sakr, 11, when a driver, Samuel Davidson, hit them with his car outside Oatlands golf club.

Danny Abdullah told Sky News host Paul Murray, while he ultimately understood what led to the death of his
children - and a recent break-in to his home - he still couldn't comprehend the reason for the club's rejection of the memorial.

"I go down to the memorial there most mornings at about 5 AM. I sit there and look at the kids' photos and I cry and imagine them running to me from the golf course," he said.

"It's such a special place to me and I know there are other dads that are members at the golf course who have reached out... I'm not asking for much."

Mr Abdullah said he felt misled by the golf club because he had "ticked all the boxes" to comply with the club's requests, including scaling down the memorial.

"Everything they've asked us to do, we've done. But then right at the end, they said... we're going to give you rocks up against the fence, four stones, and the kids' plaques and the fence," he said.
