One Nation's Mark Latham says it's "disgraceful" there'd be criticism of professional dancers after a dance troupe of young women performed a "twerk" dance routine during the commissioning of a new naval ship.

"They're professional dancers who probably since they were young girls, have dreamed and worked hard and trained themselves to perform at significant events like that," he said.

"In an era when we're talking about the treatment of women, I think it's disgraceful there'd be criticism of professional dancers; women who have worked hard to aspire to this level of expertise."
