FIFTY Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force officers will leave on Galleons Passage for St Vincent on Tuesday with supplies for those affected by the eruptions of La Soufriere on the island.
The Ministry of National Security issued a statement on Sunday saying they will be in St Vincent for two weeks in the first instance. They include engineers and personnel from the infantry/provost, medical and logistics departments and will depart with supplies collected from the the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) and Ministry of National Security, including water, food essentials, toiletries, hygiene materials, simple medical supplies and other items requested.
The statement noted that the ministry is also working with the Ministry of Foreign and Caricom Affairs to repatriate TT nationals from St Vincent and the Grenadines on Tuesday using the same vessel.
They will be required to quarantine.
The ministry asked that all who wished to donate items to St Vincent and the Grenadines to contact the ODPM or deliver the items at collection points identified by the ODPM on its website and Facebook pages.
"The government of Trinidad and Tobago continues to be in contact with the authorities in SVG and to monitor their situation. The Government will continue to provide support and assistance requested and required by SVG.
"Our prayers and thoughts continue to be with SVG and we assure our brothers and sisters in SVG that we stand in solidarity with them during their period of challenge.
