Biden unveils executive orders to address gun violence ‘epidemic’

about 3 years in news

US President Joe Biden has condemned gun violence as an “epidemic” and “international embarrassment” as he unveiled new measures to reduce the risk of gun related violence in the United States.

There has been increased pressure on the president to take action on gun control following a series of shootings in the past week.

Mr Biden unveiled a set of executive orders aimed at reigning in unregistered firearms made from kits and called on the Senate to pass two background check bills approved by the House last month.

Critics have described the measures as a knee jerk reaction to gun violence which would infringe on second amendment rights and fail to do anything to address deaths.

The president argued claims suggesting the measures would threaten second amendment rights were “phony arguments”.
