THE Prime Minister met virtually on Thursday with prominent US Democratic Congresswoman Maxine Waters of California to discuss several matters of mutual interests, said a post on his personal Facebook page.
Dr Rowley is Caricom chairman, while Waters is chair of the Committee on Financial Services in the US House of Representatives.
Their discussions included talks on access to covid19 vaccines, Venezuela, Haiti and other Caricom-related issues.
 
Minister of Foreign and Caricom Affairs Dr Amery Browne and TT ambassador to Caricom Frances Seignoret also attended the meeting.
Waters' page on the House's website says she is one of the most powerful women in American politics today, with a reputation as a fearless and outspoken advocate for women, children, people of colour and the poor. One of 13 children of a single mother in St Louis, Missouri, she began working at age 13 in factories and segregated restaurants, and then garment factories and a telephone company, until later earning a bachelor's degree, becoming a teacher and entering public life. Recently she was in the public eye for calling for the impeachment of former US president Donald Trump and for revealing that her older sister had died of covid19.
