Health workers in Trinidad and Tobago will participate in a survey by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), on attitudes towards covid19 vaccines.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, PAHO said the study will seek to determine attitudes toward vaccines in general, intentions to take and recommend covid19 vaccines, factors that influence these intentions, and general attitudes toward immunisation and flu.
The results of the PAHO survey are also expected to guide the development of public policies, with the objective of increasing vaccine acceptance, improving confidence, and allowing effective promotion of the vaccine among the population.
PAHO and the World Health Organization (WHO) have recommended that health care providers should be the first group to be vaccinated against covid19.
Jessie Schutt-Aine, co-ordinator of the Caribbean Subregional Programme at PAHO said: “Reaching health workers with accurate communication and information about vaccines is critical to the successful launch of vaccines. Covid19 vaccines have been subject to significant errors and misinformation."
Schutt-Aine said healthcare providers have been shown to be the most reliable source of information on vaccination in several studies.
A communication campaign has been launched by PAHO's Caribbean subregional office.
The survey will also include health workers from: Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines and Suriname.
