Private help may be needed for Woodford Square fountain

about 3 years in TT News day

Port of Spain mayor Joel Martinez has said if the government does not release funds, he will seek help from the private sector to help finish restoring the Woodford Square fountain.
The fountain, which features a statue of Aphrodite, Greek goddess of love, with her son Eros and several Nereids, has been under repair since 2019, with $71,800 approved to complete it. The statue has been mended and repainted, but the fountain is dry and the mechanism is not working.
Speaking with Newsday on Friday, Martinez said he was still waiting for funds from the government, but would have to seek help from private citizens if no assistance was available.
Asked when he felt the work would be completed, Martinez said he was hopeful the repairs would be finished "in the next few months."
The statue was donated by Gregor Turnbull, a Scots merchant, in 1866.
