KYLE Mayers and Roston Chase both struck half-centuries for the Cricket West Indies President’s XI in a two-day practice match against Sri Lanka at Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua, on Thursday. The match ended in a draw.
West Indies and Sri Lanka will play in a two-match Test series bowling off at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua, on Sunday.
Starting the second day’s play on 103/1 the President’s XI were dismissed for 294. The effort gave the President’s XI a healthy first-innings lead of 122.
In the first session, Sri Lanka grabbed the key wickets of Shai Hope and Darren Bravo. Hope was dismissed for 68 after resuming the day on 60 and Bravo failed to add to his overnight score of 30.
Hope’s knock came off 89 balls and included 11 fours and two sixes.
Mayers, who announced himself on the world stage with a memorable Test double century against Bangladesh last month, slammed 57 off 66 balls which included 11 fours.
Chase, who was not chosen for the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka, reminded the selectors of his potential with 52. His 81-ball innings included eight fours.
Bowling for Sri Lanka, Dhananjaya De Silva grabbed 3/26, Lasith Embuldeniya snatched 3/69 and Suranga Lakmal took 2/14.
Sri Lanka closed the day on 56 without loss in its second innings with Dimuth Karunaratne ending on 27 not out and Lahiru Thirimanna on 23 not out.
