Quad bloc face to face would be an ‘impressive diplomatic coup’ for Morrison

about 3 years in news

Talks of a face-to-face meeting between the national leaders in the Quad bloc this year could mean a “really impressive diplomatic coup” for Scott Morrison, according to the Australian Financial Review’s Aaron Patrick.

The alliance between Japan, India, Australia and the United States – which recently had its first meeting - saw challenges such as the COVID-9 pandemic and climate change at the focus of discussion.

Concerns around free trade and security were also discussed, and the four leaders made the significant commitment to distribute one billion COVID-19 vaccines throughout the Indo-Pacific region by the end of 2022.

“We’re all coming together to talk about how to essentially try and respond to the aggressiveness of China,” Mr Patrick told Sky News host Sharri Markson.

“There’s even talk that officials are trying to get a meeting, a face-to-face meeting of the leaders of Australia, Japan, India and the United States this year”.

“Which would be a really impressive diplomatic coup for Scott Morrison.”
