MP David Lee slams Energy Minister for causing ‘super’ gas panic

about 3 years in TT News day

OPPOSITION MP David Lee has said that Energy Minister Franklin Khan’s recent “uncertain” statements on the alleged phasing out of super gasoline is another example of how “unfit he is to hold the (ministerial) post.”
Last week, Khan told the TT Guardian the government would decide by the end of the year whether super gasoline would be phased out.
But in a release on Monday, his ministry said, “The current decision of the Government is that it has no intention to phase out super gasoline with preference to premium gasoline on the local liquid fuels market. Therefore, super gasoline will continue to be available to the motoring public.”
Lee said the release and its timing were “quite damning,” adding that he seems to be unaware of the actions of his own ministry and Cabinet policies.
“Any responsible minister with the public's best interest at heart would have ensured proper deliberation before prematurely making such a grave statement which subsequently forced many vulnerable users of super gas and other entities within the energy sector into panic mode.
“These actions have yet again vindicated and supported my recent private motion of no confidence in the Minister of Energy as they reflect the level of disconnect and incompetence of Minister Khan to undertake his duties to ensure stability and certainty within the energy sector.”
He said Khan is still unable to tell the country what his plans are for increasing gas production and “halting the collapse of Point Lisas.
“It is all of these collective actions which may have led to his colleagues abandoning him in the motion of no confidence debate by opting to adjourn the sitting as opposed to voting to show confidence in Minister Khan.”
