A group of calypsonians have banded together to host a special 40-day tribute for the late “Singing Sandra,” Sandra Des Vignes-Millington.
The late calypsonian, known for hits such as Voices From the Ghetto and Die With My Dignity, died on January 28.
The tribute concert will take place on March 7 from 7 pm on Kenny Phillips’ Wack 90.1 FM.
Calypsonian Stephen Marcelle, Makeda Darius, Kerine “Tiny” Williams-Figaro, Georgia Mc Intyre and Morisha Ransome form the organising committee of To Sandra, With Love: A Mother, A Queen, A Legend.
Marcelle said the show will allow viewers to pledge financial contributions to buy tablets for underprivileged children in the late singer’s community of Morvant.
Karene Asche, Lady Gypsy, Makeda Darius, Dane Gulston, Lady Adanna and reigning Calypso Monarch Terri Lyons are among the performers. The concert will be hosted by Damian Melville. Sugar Aloes, Sheldon Blackman and Curlissa Charles will make special appearances.
The Trinbago Unified Calypsonians Organisation (TUCO) will also host a 40-day tribute for Singing Sandra on March 9 from 6.30 pm.
A flyer on the organisation’s Facebook page said the event will take place at Carlsen Field, Chaguanas, and people are asked to wear white or orange. This event will also be streamed live on YouTube.
