THE Prime Minister is unfazed by the Opposition's criticism of a meeting between himself and Venezuelan Ambassador Carlos Amador Perez Silva.
He said, "Their head just hard. They're not learning."
Dr Rowley met with Perez Silva on Monday at the Diplomatic Centre in St Ann's.
In a release, the Office of the Prime Minister said the meeting focused on "issues related to national security, immigration and covid19."
It said Minister of Foreign and Caricom Affairs Dr Amery Browne, Minister of National Security Stuart Young and Ricardo Sánchez, chief of the consular section of the Venezuelan embassy, also attended.
But on Tuesday, Naparima MP Rodney Charles accused Rowley of "a diplomatic faux pas."
He said, "How in heaven's name could our PM as our head of state, and the next rotating chair of Caricom, convene a high-level meeting with a Venezuelan diplomat?”
Charles said the diplomat should instead have met with Browne alone.
Asked about this at a press conference on Wednesday, Rowley said, "It's all in a day's work, eh.
"Because the government of TT is required to talk to the Government of Venezuela, and all other governments for that matter, and those for whom that is a problem, their head just hard. They're not learning.
"The African Caribbean (and) Pacific (Group of States) study on TT made a specific recommendation – as if we needed that – to tell us that to manage this migration problem between us and Venezuela, that we are to be in constant communication...Yet we have people in here telling us, 'Don't talk to the Venezuelan authorities.'"
He did not give any further details of the meeting.
