Jack Not even I can save the UNC

FORMER UNC chairman Jack Warner on Monday said any help he offers the party will not help it get back into government as long as Kamla Persad-Bissessar remains as its political leader. Persad-Bissessar and her Star Team won a landslide victory in the party's internal election on December 6, over former St Augustine MP Vasant Bharath and his Lotus team.
Warner told Newsday, "If the UNC ever needs my help, they will surely get it, in spite of the fact that it will be an exercise in futility under its present structure.
"Kamla Persad-Bissessar cannot help the UNC even with her best resolve and the party will decline beyond 2030."
Warner expressed his support for Bharath in November. In an audio clip circulated on social media, he said, "Today I urge you to vote for Vasant Bharath as political leader of the UNC. If you do that, once again, you will have me in your corner. Do what is right for the party and the country."
Efforts to contact Bharath, to find out whether Persad-Bissessar or any member of the UNC's national executive (natex) had spoken with him after the election about how he could serve the party, were unsuccessful.
In a post on his Facebook page on December 7, Bharath said the first major assignment for Persad-Bissessar and the natex "should be to determine why there is such apathy among members, as evidenced by the very low voter turnout." He observed,"It is instructive that 19 UNC Members of Parliament could only motivate a tiny minority of members to participate in the electoral process.
"A first measure in removing the PNM from national office must be to inspire the UNC’s ground troops to the party’s cause."
