Police detained six illegal Venezuelan immigrants, arrested a man and seized marijuana in separate incidents in the South Western Division on Tuesday.
A police media release said Siparia District officers on patrol along the SS Erin Road, Siparia near China Gardens noticed a silver Toyota Corolla at the side of the road. A number of people were getting out of it.
They intercepted the group – four men, a woman and a child – and discovered they were in the country illegally.
The driver, a 39-year-old Trinidad and Tobago national, was detained pending further investigations.
The group was taken to a hospital to be medically examined before being handed over to immigration officials to be repatriated.
In a separate incident, the South Western Division Task Force arrested a 25-year-old man for possession of an illicit amount of marijuana and an outstanding warrant.
Police also received information which led them to an open lot in Quarry Village, Siparia, where they found and seized a quantity of marijuana. Investigations are ongoing.
