President Trump steps up threats to intervene in Seattle CHAZ blockade

almost 4 years in news

Donald Trump has stepped up his threats to send federal agencies into Seattle, where demonstrators have seized control of the streets.

Activists have occupied a six-block stretch including the police precinct, naming the area the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone, or CHAZ.

There's free food, movies screenings and no authorities allowed.

President Trump said he refused to allow "Seattle be occupied by anarchists" and the Seattle Police Chief pointed out police response times in the area have tripled.

However, the Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan said the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone "had a block party atmosphere" and was no threat to public safety.
