NZ funeral attendance to remain at 10 as other restrictions ease

almost 4 years in heraldsun

New Zealand’s cap on 10 people attending funerals will remain in place when the nation moves to stage two restrictions tomorrow.

The move has caused distress for many wanting to farewell their loved ones as the government indicated last week that up to 100 might be allowed at a funeral under alert level two.

The Opposition National Party launched a petition on Wednesday, calling on the government to relax the rules which Opposition Leader Simon Bridges called inhumane.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said she understood the restrictions placed many families in a difficult position but insisted they were necessary.
