General Petr Pavel (born 1 November 1961) is a Czech army officer and since 26 June 2015 the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee. He is the first person from a former Eastern Bloc state to hold the position. Prior to his current role he was Chief of the General Staff of the Czech Army from 1 July 2012 to 1 May 2015.Pavel graduated at the Military gymnasium (high school) in Opava.
