THE flying 200-metre event was one of the races on show when the TT Cycling Federation held an assessment session at the National Cycling Velodrome in Balmain, Couva, on Friday night.
In the women's junior category, there was little separation between Madonna Cycling Club team-mates Phoebe Sandy and Makayla Hernandez. Sandy broke the tape in 12.88 seconds to earn the top spot just ahead of Hernandez who was close behind in 12.9.
Adrianna Seyjagat of Arima Wheelers, who was the lone competitor in the flying women's 200m event, clocked 13.96.
In the standing 500m race, Hernandez got revenge as she finished ahead of Sandy. Hernandez clocked 39.00 and Sandy was just behind in 40.19.
In the flying men's 200m event, there was another close battle among the junior riders. On this occasion, the Arima Wheelers pair of Ryan D'abreau and Devante Lawrence matched each other with the former stopping the clock in 11.561 to earn the top spot. Lawrence was right on D'abreau's heels and finished in 11.647. The other cyclists who competed in the flying 200m were Madonna's Raul Garcia in the juvenile category, Evolution Academy's Michael Ackee in the elite division and Arima Wheelers's Kyle Caraby in the elite Under-23.
Garcia clocked 12.19, Ackee ended in 11.135 and Caraby finished in 12.418.
In another result, women's juvenile cyclist Alexia Wilson of Arima Wheelers recorded a time of 24.2 in the standing 250m event.
