BLAXX and D’All Starz is under new management. Former banker, event manager and promoter Richard Gordon is now the band’s new manager.
A media release said Gordon is also the founder and president of events company Kairi People.
It said, “Along with his certification in events management from Arthur Lok Jack School of Business, he comes with over 20 years experience in event management. He is also a former banker with 28 years experience at First Citizens.”
Gordon said to Newsday in a phone interview that it was an honour to be the manager of the legendary band. The band was formerly known as the Roy Cape All Stars after its legendary founder, musician Roy Cape. The name was changed to D’All Starz in 2017 after Cape’s retirement.
“I feel excited to be given such a huge responsibility to manage the band. I have ideas. I am always a thinking person being part of Kairi People, the founder and executive member of Kairi People. I am always thinking how best to go forward and make things happen efficiently, transparently and everything. That is what I will bring to the table of Blaxx and D’All Starz,” Gordon said.

Kairi People specialises in producing events with a mantra of value for money, the release said. The company is known for Carnival events such as Different, Breakfast Is, Jus Bring It (JBI) and Nouvert (J’Ouvert on Carnival Tuesday morning). The company also hosts events outside of Carnival such as Runaway.
The release said, “Gordon is responsible for the reintroduction of Headley’s All Inclusive fete in 2019 and is a member of the planning committee for Straight Outta Belmont, St Francis Boys’ College’s (formerly Belmont Boys Secondary) major fundraiser."
Gordon said he will revisit and keep true to what should happen in the music industry which is efficiency and good music. He said what the band is known for over the years, which is good music, he is going to try his best to bring that and ideas brought to Kairi People.
He said he wanted to keep some of the ideas close to his chest and discuss them with the band. He said Blaxx and D’All Starz and Kairi People have a great synergy and there will be an even better synergy now. Gordon said Kairi People’s patrons will benefit from him being the manager of the band.
“That love and respect we have for each other will continue.”
Gordon and the band have had a long-standing relationship and the band performed in various Kairi People events throughout the years, the release said.
“This coupled with the fact that Richard assisted the band with its Harmony III concert last month, sparked the idea of him becoming the band's manager on a permanent basis,” the release said.
